This solo CD of viola da gamba music by French baroque composer Mr. de Machy was performed on a copy of the 1683 Michel Collichon viol, which lies in Cité de la musique in Paris. De Machy's music was the first book of pieces published in Paris in 1685. It contains suites of dances that are preceded by unmeasured preludes, allowing the performer to freely express these wonderful works. My debut CD recording on the theorbo, a bass lute with an extended neck, of music by French baroque composer Robert de Visée. These pieces are immensely beautiful and represent one of the best examples of solo pieces for this instrumental genre.
